WEEE Directive
From the 13th of August 2005 retailers are obliged to take back WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) from members of the public free of charge. This new EU directive ensures that all historic WEEE products are collected, treated and disposed of in an environmentally sound manner.
How does WEEE work?
Take back is on a one-for-one basis only and the product must be of a similar type or have performed the same function as the new product purchased. For example if you purchase a hair-dryer we will take back your old hair-dryer free of charge and ensure it is recycled in a safe and responsible manner. However if you buy a toaster, we will not take back your old television or kettle.
How do I know if my product is covered?

If the symbol shown here is found on any of your goods, it means that the product is covered by the WEEE Regulations
How do I return my old product?
You can return your old product at the time of sale/delivery of the new product or you can call us on 01-6251320 to arrange to collect your old product within 15 days of the date of sale/delivery. Alternatively you can bring it to

within 15 days of the date of sale or, if delivered, within a maximum of 30 days of the date of delivery.
You can also bring your old product to your nearest civic amenity centre, of which there are approximately 64 located throughout the country, which will allow consumers to dispose of all old electronic equipment free of charge.
For business users Elara will recycle all products that are sent to our warehouse(45 Canal Walk, Parkwest, Dublin 12), this must be accompanied by a valid order number. Elara do not offer a WEEE collection service for businesses.

What are the Environmental Management Costs or Producer Recycling Fund(PRF)?
To ensure the collection, treatment and disposal of all WEEE in a safe manner, the prices of electronic and electrical items will now include a contribution to a producer recycling fund. Each item will be associated with a product category, e.g. large household appliances, electronic and electrical tools, etc, which will determine the EMC that applies. All products that incur an EMC, will clearly display the EMC along with the item price both before and after the EMC is applied.
